Adoption Information...

Thank you for considering a shelter animal as your next pet.

Before you make your final decision, there are a few things to understand about shelter animals and owning a pet in general.

*Are you ready for the resonsibility of an animal?--health care, grooming, exercise, feeding, socializing, training and the time committment?  You could be looking at having this pet around for up to 10-15 years or more.

*Is everyone in your family ready for a pet and those responsibilities?

*If you rent, is your landlord agreeable to you having a pet?  Do you have any restrictions?

*Do you understand that sometimes shelter animals need additional work?  Possbily in socializing and/or training?  And are you prepared to provide that?

*Have you thought about what type (energy) of dog you would be interested in?  High energy dogs would be good with active homes and need daily exercise.  Some dogs may be more deedy and require a lot of family time.

*Do you understand these pets are intended for permanent homes?  It is stressful for an animal to keep bouncing around from home to shelter and back.

*Have you read and do you understand the SECARE adoption agreement?

Be honest with yourself about what you are able to do.   And discuss with shelter personnel your requirements in a pet and any special conditions in your family (allergies).  SECARE is here to help you find the right pet for your home.
