CARE-ing PAWS CARE-ing PAWS is a program under development now by SECARE to take qualifying shelter dogs and turn them into service or therapy dogs. Under the CARE-ing PAWS program, we have the Senior to Senior project which will allow our senior and other suitable inhabitants to be placed in homes with senior citizens, disabled people, or shut-ins. Please check our Senior to Senior page for more information on this project. The CARE-ing PAWS program is developing a program to evaluate, train, certify and place these therapy and service dogs into homes. It is the mission statement of SECARE to place qualified dogs into a program such as CARE-ing PAWS where they can be properly trained to not only pass the AKC Canine Good Citizen Test, but also pass certification as therapy or service dogs. To this end, SECARE has begun the evaluation of dogs coming into the shelter for their suitability for this program. Some of the dogs are in the very early stages of training, and not all will be able to complete as we do continuing evaluation of their performances. Any dogs not able to complete in this program will go up for general adoption as companion animals. At this time, we are not able to be a resource for funding, nor can we provide trained, certified service or therapy dogs free of charge.
